The ‘Little Lights’ nutrition campaign focuses on providing monthly support to malnourished babies and infants in Gaza. To find cases, we obtain referrals from hospitals, journalists and our ground team. We then provide monthly parcels containing the appropriate milk, diapers and nutritious food to support the infant or child until they recover from malnutrition. In order to evaluate a child’s malnutrition, our team uses a MUAC band, which is a medical diagnostic tool that measures the middle upper arm circumference of a child below the age of 5, and grades the level of malnutrition.
Over the past 1.5 years, many children’s health and lives have been transformed due to our long-term food and formula support. Our consistent, targeted intervention has helped many children recover from malnutrition and it has also helped children with severe medical issues survive while they wait for evacuation.
Whilst our main aid consists of food, formula and diapers, many of the children suffering from malnutrition are also without other basic necessities such as adequate shelter or warm clothes. Little Lights ensures that the malnourished children on our campaign are looked after in every aspect and provides aid such as tents, mattresses, blankets and clothes.
While the heart of our project lies in Gaza where we support a large number of children through long-term monthly deliveries, our aim is to expand our malnutrition work to other conflict-affected areas where children are also suffering. We are currently working to support 30 malnourished children in Democratic Republic of Congo.
Every dollar makes a difference in bringing joy to families in need.
